ESS Manager
ESS Manager is a server application that controls all applications
across the workstations and all other applications on the same or other
servers. Similarly, it is the common gateway for all inter-process
communications other than those running on the same workstation.
Browser applications are primarily server based. The limitations
inherent in the technology, such as timed events and communications to
other processes, are resolved by facilities provided by ESS Manager.
The advantages of the new design are numerous. A common protocol ensures
that facilities developed once are readily available to all
applications. All messages passing between applications are logged at
each stage so providing a full audit trail while easing problem
identification. Applications are more tightly integrated so, for
example, Softswitch has tighter links to the call taking & despatching
modules.
Another important feature is that all new software will only need to be
loaded on the server after which it is registered with ESS Manager.
ESS Gateway on a workstation will detect the need to transfer the
upgraded programs or invoke the standard Windows install procedure. This
is an automatic facility. Hence users will be prevented from
running old versions of applications software thereby eliminating the
risk of corrupting files and databases.
Redundancy is also critical. The design makes provision for secondary
servers, for example, connecting to the racks, which are able to take
over in the event of a failure of the primary server.
Web Manager
A new application enabling ESS Web to interface other applications.
ESS Web will write/read the database allowing Web Manager to access the
database and send commands to other applications using the appropriate
methodology.
It further includes timed events which are not generally offered by Web
based applications.
